Comparative StudySupport and correlates of support for banning smoking in cars with children: findings from the ITC Four Country Survey.
Since 2006, banning smoking in cars with children has become a rapidly growing tobacco control policy. However, to date, there have been few studies examining support and correlates of support for car smoking bans, and none of the existing studies have been international in nature. We conducted such a study among smokers in four countries. ⋯ These findings indicate that a majority of smokers in the four countries support banning smoking in cars with children, and lend support to banning smoking in cars with children. Additionally, they suggest that support may be increased by educating smokers about the dangers of cigarette smoke exposure.

We sought to investigate the penetration of the H1N1v vaccine in Greek medical students, as well as their approach to the vaccination. ⋯ Our findings confirmed the low penetration of the H1N1 vaccine in Greece, as in most European countries, even in medical students. Better education of the students and the public might aid in increasing the immunization rates.

Theories of why income inequality correlates with violence suggest that inequality erodes social capital and trust, or inhibits investment into public services and infrastructure. Past research sensed the importance of these causal paths but few have examined them using tests of statistical mediation. ⋯ Results were consistent with psychosocial explanations of links between income inequality and homicide; however, the causal relationship between inequality, trust and homicide remains unclear given the cross-sectional design of this study. Societies with large income differences and low levels of trust may lack the social capacity to create safe communities.
