Preoperative nutritional and inflammatory indices have been reported to be associated with the prognosis of patients with malignancy. We evaluated clinicopathological factors, including nutritional and inflammatory indices, and recurrence prognosis in patients with stage IIA colon cancer (CC) who underwent curative surgery. ⋯ PNI is a useful marker for predicting recurrence prognosis in post-resection patients with stage IIA CC.

Mental illness and depression can be associated with increased risk of suicidal ideation (SI). We sought to determine the association between mental illness and SI among cancer surgical patients. ⋯ Roughly 1 in 370 Medicare beneficiaries with cancer who underwent a wide range of surgical procedures had SI. An antecedent mental health diagnosis was a strong risk factor for SI.
