Review Historical ArticleHistory of surgical intervention of anterior shoulder instability.
Anterior glenohumeral instability most commonly affects younger patients and has shown high recurrence rates with nonoperative management. The treatment of anterior glenohumeral instability has undergone significant evolution over the 20th and 21 centuries. ⋯ The future of anterior shoulder stabilization will continue to evolve with even newer practices, such as the arthroscopic Latarjet transfer. Further research and clinical experience will dictate which future innovations are ultimately embraced.

How well do contoured superior midshaft clavicle plates fit the clavicle? A cadaveric study.
Given the degree of variation in clavicular morphology, 4 clavicle plating systems were examined for their congruity as superior, midshaft, anatomic clavicle (SMAC) plates in a cadaveric study. ⋯ Plating systems with multiple plate shape variations are more advantageous when dealing with smaller-sized clavicles, typically in females. However, when dealing with larger clavicles, there was no real difference.

Biomechanical analysis of intramedullary vs. superior plate fixation of transverse midshaft clavicle fractures.
Middle-third clavicle fractures represent 2% to 4% of all skeletal trauma in the United States. Treatment options include intramedullary (IM) as well as plate and screw (PS) constructs. The purpose of this study was to analyze the biomechanical stability of a specific IM system compared with nonlocking PS fixation under low-threshold physiologic load. ⋯ Basic Science Study; Biomechanics.

Use of plate fixation without coracoclavicular ligament augmentation for unstable distal clavicle fractures.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiologic outcomes of unstable distal clavicle fractures treated with anatomic plate fixation without coracoclavicular ligament augmentation and to compare the outcome of Neer type IIA with that of type IIB. ⋯ Level IV; Case Series; Treatment Study.

Does chondrolysis occur after corticosteroid-analgesic injections? An analysis of patients treated for adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder.
Clinical studies using continuous infusions of local anesthetics and basic science studies that model injections of local anesthetics have shown chondrotoxicity. However, clinical studies do not exist that have assessed for the risk of chondrolysis in nonarthritic joints exposed to single or intermittent corticosteroid or analgesic injections. Currently, there are no data available to guide the clinician on the safety of using these injections in clinical practice. ⋯ Level IV; Case Series; Treatment Study.
