ReviewLong-term follow-up of corrective ulnar osteotomy for missed Monteggia fractures in children.
Pediatric Monteggia fractures are relatively rare and are commonly missed. Radial head subluxation can persist with long-term consequences if these fractures are left untreated. We evaluated the long-term treatment outcomes after open reduction with ulnar osteotomy for missed Monteggia fractures during childhood. ⋯ Good results can be obtained after open reduction with opening-wedge ulnar osteotomy. Lesser clinical and radiographic outcomes can be expected after a surgical delay of more than 6 months. Furthermore, the radiographic outcome seems better if the patient is younger than 6 years.

Comparative StudyClinical outcomes and repair integrity after arthroscopic full-thickness rotator cuff repair: suture-bridge versus double-row modified Mason-Allen technique.
This retrospective study compared the clinical and radiologic outcomes of patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs by the suture-bridge and double-row modified Mason-Allen techniques. ⋯ Despite the presence of fewer suture anchors, the patients who underwent double-row modified Mason-Allen repair had comparable shoulder functional outcomes and a comparable retear rate with those who underwent suture-bridge repair. Therefore, the double-row modified Mason-Allen repair technique can be considered an effective treatment for patients with medium- to large-sized full-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Observational StudyRisk factors for postoperative opioid use after elective shoulder arthroplasty.
The opioid epidemic remains a serious issue in the United States with significant impact to the medical and socioeconomic welfare of communities. We sought to determine baseline opioid use in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty (SA) and identify patient characteristics, comorbidities, and surgical risk factors associated with postoperative opioid use. ⋯ Opioid usage in patients undergoing SA is widespread at 1 year, with three-fourths of patients having been dispensed at least one Rx. These findings emphasize the need for surgeon and patient awareness as well as education in the management of postoperative opioid usage associated with the indicated conditions. Surgeons may consider these risk factors for preoperative risk stratification and targeted deployment of preventative strategies.
