The erector spinae plane block (ESPB) has recently emerged as a regional anesthesia technique for perioperative pain management in pediatric cardiac surgery. However, evidence comparing its effectiveness with intravenous (IV) opioid-based analgesia is limited. We aimed to evaluate and compare the analgesic efficacy of ESPB versus IV opioids in this setting. ⋯ CRD 42024526961.

Intravenous lidocaine infusion therapy and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in adolescents undergoing idiopathic scoliosis correction: A retrospective study.
Posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion is an established surgical procedure for the correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring is standard practice for this procedure. Anesthetic agents can have different, but significant, effects on neurophysiological monitoring outcomes. ⋯ Data from these two cohorts provide preliminary evidence that intravenous lidocaine infusion has no negative impact on intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during PSIF for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Long-term maintenance-related complications of brachiocephalic vein cannulations in neonates: A retrospective evaluation.
Neonates are relatively prone to immediate, early, and late complications related to central venous cannulation (CVC). Ultrasound-guided brachiocephalic vein (BCV) cannulation has proven to be safe in neonates. Although studies addressed the immediate and early complications of CVC via BCV in neonates, few explored long-term maintenance-related complications. ⋯ In this study, the prolonged dwell time and smaller sized catheter was found to be independent predictors of total complications and CLABSI, respectively. The independent predictive effects of postconceptional age and body weight should be addressed in larger studies as potential risk factors.

Observational StudyUse of real-time respiratory function monitor improves neonatal face mask ventilation: Cross-over simulation study.
Neonatal resuscitation airway training can be difficult as there is no feedback on the face mask technique. "JUNO" is a training respiratory function monitor that provides feedback on mask leak, ventilatory rate, and tidal volume. ⋯ The use of JUNO significantly improved mask ventilation consistently across manikin types, staff roles, and techniques (either single- or two-person).

Evaluation of propofol-based procedural sedation in pediatric hemato-oncological patients provided by physician assistants in anesthesia.
Procedural sedation and analgesia are required for painful hemato-oncological procedures such as lumbar and bone marrow punctures. At our institution, sedation with propofol and alfentanil is usually provided by Physician Assistants in Anesthesia. We evaluated the adverse events during the PSA program for children, provided by Physician Assistants in Anesthesia. ⋯ Sedation and analgesia for short painful procedures in selected pediatric hemato-oncological units with a dedicated protocol may be safely provided by trained and certified Physician Assistants in Anesthesia.
