Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA novel balanced isotonic sodium solution vs normal saline during major surgery in children up to 36 months: a multicenter RCT.
The use of isotonic electrolytic solutions for the intraoperative fluid management in children is largely recognized, but the exact composition still needs to be defined. ⋯ Sterofundin is safer than normal saline in protecting young children undergoing major surgery against the risk of increasing plasma chlorides and the subsequent metabolic acidosis.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyIncidence of pain after craniotomy in children.
There is very few information regarding pain after craniotomy in children. ⋯ Children receiving multimodal analgesia experience little or no pain after major craniotomy. Longer surgical procedures correlate with an increased risk of having postoperative pain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA multicenter, randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled, single dose trial of the safety and efficacy of intravenous ibuprofen for treatment of pain in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy.
Tonsillectomy is one of the most common pediatric procedures in the United States. An optimal perioperative pain control regimen remains a challenge. Intravenous ibuprofen administered at induction of anesthesia may be a safe and efficacious option for postoperative tonsillectomy pain. ⋯ Administration of IV-ibuprofen, 10 mg·kg(-1) , significantly reduced fentanyl use in pediatric tonsillectomy patients.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyAccuracy of acoustic respiration rate monitoring in pediatric patients.
Rainbow acoustic monitoring (RRa) utilizes acoustic technology to continuously and noninvasively determine respiratory rate from an adhesive sensor located on the neck. ⋯ When compared to nasal capnography, RRa showed good agreement and similar accuracy and precision but was better tolerated in postsurgical pediatric patients.
