Evaluating the effectiveness of preoperative interventions: the appropriateness of using the Children's Emotional Manifestation Scale.
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two preoperative nursing interventions and examining the appropriateness of using the Children's Emotional Manifestation Scale in evaluating the effectiveness of preoperative interventions. ⋯ This study contributes towards enriching the experience of using child-sensitive research tools in evaluating the effectiveness of preoperative nursing interventions. The findings heighten the awareness of the importance of integrating therapeutic play as an essential component of holistic and quality nursing care to prepare children for surgery.

This paper attempts to address the global concern of the possible pandemic of influenza and avian influenza. In doing this, some unfounded beliefs related to influenza vaccines and antiviral treatment and prophylaxis are explored. This study also describes the essential measures for getting prepared. ⋯ Although the preparedness is everyone's business, nurses play a crucial and indispensable role in this exercise. With prepared personnel, facilities and good infection control practices, nosocomial spread of the disease and pandemic can be prevented.

To describe the change in documentation of the nursing process in all inpatient wards in a 900-bed university hospital. Major research question was what are the differences between before and after implementation of documentation policy related to the steps of the nursing process? ⋯ At all organizational levels intervention aimed at putting policy regarding documentation into clinical practice considerably improved daily use of standardized nursing languages. Relevance to clinical practice. Nurses need to use standardized language to document patient care data in the electronic health record and to demonstrate contributions to nursing care.

To draw on empirical evidence to illustrate the core role of nurse practitioners in Australia and New Zealand. ⋯ The findings from this research have the potential to achieve a standardised approach and internationally consistent nomenclature for the nurse practitioner role.

To describe the use of pedagogically related keywords and the content of notes connected to these keywords, as they appear in nursing records in a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery rehabilitation unit. ⋯ The patients' need for knowledge and the nurses' teaching must be documented in the patient records so as to clearly reflect the frequency and quality of pedagogical activities.
