To explore the one-year poststroke trajectories in health-related quality of life and physical function in a sample of older stroke patients in Taiwan. ⋯ Older Taiwanese/Chinese people who suffer a stroke will likely benefit from interventions during the first 12 months after discharge and the most effective interventions may be earlier, during the first three months after discharge.

The purpose of this longitudinal correlative study was to explore the degree, compare the differences and to detect the relationships of uncertainty, social support and psychological adjustment for older cancer patients who were undergoing surgery. ⋯ These findings can assist nurses in understanding the psychological adjustment needs among older cancer patients who were undergoing surgery and provide appropriate intervention in nursing care.

Soothing music can increase oxytocin levels during bed rest after open-heart surgery: a randomised control trial.
To evaluate the effect of bed rest with music on relaxation for patients who have undergone heart surgery on postoperative day one. ⋯ Music intervention should be offered as an integral part of the multimodal regime administered to the patients that have undergone cardiovascular surgery. It is a supportive source that increases relaxation.

Staff attitudes towards institutionalised dementia residents.
To explore the attitudes of staff caring for institutionalised dementia residents and the variables associated with these attitudes. ⋯ Improvements in staff competency levels will be more important in the future, as a result of the forecasted increase in the percentage of the population who will suffer from dementia and reside in nursing homes.
