Effects of music on depression in older people: a randomised controlled trial.
To determine the effect of music on depression levels in older adults. Background. Depression is a common psychiatric disorder in older adults, and its impacts on this group of people, along with its conventional treatment, merit our attention. Conventional pharmacological methods might result in dependence and impairment in psychomotor and cognitive functioning. Listening to music, which is a non-pharmacological method, might reduce depression. ⋯ Music is a non-invasive, simple and inexpensive therapeutic method of improving life quality in community-dwelling older people.

Second-level hospital health professionals' attitudes to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents seeking health for their children.
The aim of the study was to assess health professionals' knowledge, attitudes and beliefs regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender parents accessing health care for their children. ⋯ Properly implemented family-centred care is an ideal model to provide care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender families. However, the benefits of family-centred care can only be realised fully if health professionals delivering that care are sensitive to the context, functions and constructs of all the families they encounter.

The goal of this study was to describe how persons with fibromyalgia manage their lives given the multiple symptoms they experience, in particular how they use non-pharmacologic strategies, or how they incorporate these strategies along with pharmacologic agents. ⋯ Our findings suggest that nurses should discuss the self-management strategies found with persons who have fibromyalgia in the context of individual patient experiences.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Effects of music intervention with nursing presence and recorded music on psycho-physiological indices of cancer patient caregivers.
To compare the effects of music intervention with nursing presence and recorded music on blood volume pulse amplitude, the low/high frequency ratio component of heart rate variability, depression, anxiety and sleep quality in cancer patient caregivers; to compare the participants evaluation of these two forms of musical intervention. ⋯ The findings provide evidence for nurses that the therapeutic use of music and nursing presence as a research-based nursing intervention for the welfare of caregivers.

An exploration of Singaporean parental experiences in managing school-aged children's postoperative pain: a descriptive qualitative approach.
To enhance understanding of the experience of parents in managing their children's postoperative pain in Singapore. ⋯ Nurses need to provide parents with support and education to facilitate their roles and improve their child's postoperative pain management.
