Multicenter Study
The introduction of a safety checklist in two UK hospital emergency departments: A qualitative study of implementation and staff use.
To explore the extent to which a checklist designed to support patient safety in hospital Emergency Departments was recognised and used by staff. ⋯ The Emergency Department Safety Checklist is a response to an overcrowded environment. To realise the potential of the checklist, emergency departments should take the following steps during implementation: (a) focus on the core function of clinical safety, (b) fully integrate the checklist into the existing workflow and (c) employ a departmental team-based approach to implementation and training.

End of life in acute hospital setting-A systematic review of families' experience of spiritual care.
To systematically review qualitative studies exploring families' experiences of spiritual care at the end of life in acute hospital settings. ⋯ Although hospice care is well established internationally, many families experience end-of-life care in acute hospital settings. Nurses usually get to know families well during this time; however, the demands of the clinical environment place restrictions on family care and perceptions of lack of communication, limited support and/or limited sensitivity can compound families' suffering. Consideration of families' spiritual needs can help to support families during this time. Nurses are ideally placed for this and can anticipate and plan for patient and family needs in this regard, or refer to a specialist, such as the Healthcare Chaplain.

Randomized Controlled Trial
An open-label, randomised controlled trial on the effectiveness of the Orve + wrap® versus Forced Air Warming in restoring normothermia in the postanaesthetic care unit.
To determine the clinical effectiveness and safety of the Orve + wrap® thermal blanket. ⋯ The Orve + wrap® potentially provides an alternative warming method to Forced Air Warming for patients requiring short-term postoperative warming. However, there are still a number of unknowns regarding the Orve + wrap® performance and further exploration is required.

Oversedation, delirium and immobilisation in the intensive care unit are associated with increased length of stay in the unit. Routines of systematic pain and sedation assessment and the use of valid tools are highly stressed in international guidelines. For improving the quality of pain treatment and sedation in a Norwegian intensive care unit, in 2009-2015, we compared supplementation with an analgosedation approach and the existing systematic approach, measured by the adherence to current international pain, sedation and delirium guidelines. ⋯ The results of the study draw attention to pain treatment, sedation and delirium in intensive care patients, as well as implementation strategies aimed at achieving healthcare personnel's adherence to international guidelines in clinical practice.

Critical care nurses' perception of care coordination competency for management of mechanically ventilated patients.
To evaluate nurses' care coordination competency for mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units (ICUs) of Saudi Arabia (SA). ⋯ The results provide information on the status and gaps in ICU nurses' care coordination competencies to address the needs of mechanically ventilated critically ill patients. The NCCCS can be utilised as an educational tool for nurses who are new to the ICU work environment.
