Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies Positivity and Anti-Leukotrienes in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis: A Retrospective Monocentric Study on 134 Italian Patients.
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a systemic vasculitis associated with asthma, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) positivity, and tissue eosinophilia. ⋯ Despite the limitations of this retrospective study, the association between LTRAs and ANCA antibodies elucidates the mechanism by which innate immunity is directly involved in tolerance breakdown and autoantibodies production. Validation of our results with targeted studies could clarify the differences between ANCA-positive and ANCA-negative patients with important consequences on the use of some drug classes in the treatment of EGPA and asthmatic subjects.

The study objective was to compare age-related differences in the cause and clinical presentation of anaphylaxis. ⋯ Knowledge of age-related variation in the cause and clinical presentation of anaphylaxis aids in diagnosis and acute management.

ReviewRagweed Pollen Allergy: Burden, Characteristics, and Management of an Imported Allergen Source in Europe.
Ambrosia artemisiifolia, also known as common or short ragweed, is an invasive annual flowering herbaceous plant that has its origin in North America. Nowadays, ragweed can be found in many areas worldwide. Ragweed pollen is known for its high potential to cause type I allergic reactions in late summer and autumn and represents a major health problem in America and several countries in Europe. ⋯ Pharmacotherapy is the most common treatment for ragweed pollen allergy but fails to impact on the course of allergy. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only causative and disease-modifying treatment of allergy with long-lasting effects, but currently it is based on the administration of ragweed pollen extract or Amb a 1 only. In order to improve ragweed pollen AIT, new strategies are required with higher efficacy and safety.

Comparative StudyClinicoepidemiologic Features of Chronic Urticaria in Patients with versus without Subclinical Helicobacter pylori Infection: A Cross-Sectional Study of 150 Patients.
The Helicobacter pylori infection is linked to chronic urticaria in nearly 60% of patients. We studied clinicoepidemiologic features in patients with chronic urticaria with and without H. pylori infection. ⋯ A subset of chronic urticaria patients appears to have asymptomatic H. pylori infection. However, its implications in chronicity, recurrences, the severity of urticaria, other systemic manifestations, and management remains conjectural in view of 33% of controls also having positive H. pylori ELISA and the endemicity of infection in developing countries.

Specific IgE for Fag e 3 Predicts Oral Buckwheat Food Challenge Test Results and Anaphylaxis: A Pilot Study.
Buckwheat (BW) is the source of a life-threatening allergen. Fag e 3-specific serum IgE (sIgE) is more useful than BW-sIgE for diagnosis; however, it is unknown whether Fag e 3-sIgE can predict oral food challenge (OFC) results and anaphylaxis. This study aimed to clarify the efficacy of Fag e 3-sIgE in predicting OFC results and anaphylaxis. ⋯ Fag e 3-sIgE predicted OFC results and OFC-induced anaphylaxis. We further emphasize paying careful attention to the risk of BW OFC-induced anaphylaxis.
