The outcomes of patients with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess mortality, trends, predictors, and outcomes in patients of SCA and COPD from a large inpatient administrative database. ⋯ SCA in settings of COPD may have high mortality when compared to patients with SCA and no concomitant COPD. Further research delving into potential mechanisms for SCA in COPD patients is warranted.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is widely used as a cost-effective method for detecting pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNTs), but its diagnostic value is variable among published studies. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the diagnostic value of EUS for PNTs. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that EUS has a relatively high diagnostic value for diagnosing PNTs.

Secondary pulmonary infections (SPI) have not been well described in COVID-19 patients. Our study aims to examine the incidence and risk factors of SPI in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with pneumonia. ⋯ The incidence of SPI in hospitalized COVID-19 patients was 5%. Lower nadir median lymphocyte count during hospitalization was associated with an increased OR of developing SPI. The CRP and d-dimer levels on admission, and peak procalcitonin and CRP levels during hospitalization were higher in patients with SPI.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to play critical roles in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. However, whether lncRNA opa-interacting protein 5 antisense RNA 1 (OIP5-AS1) regulates the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS) is still unknown. ⋯ OIP5-AS1 promotes the proliferation, migration and suppresses apoptosis of VSMCs through regulating miR-141-3p/HMGB1 axis.
