Pulmonary embolism is a significant complication of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, commonly known as histoacryl, used to sclerose bleeding gastroesophageal varices. We present a 50-year-old female with seronegative chronic liver disease who was managed with endoscopic histoacryl injection sclerotherapy for bleeding gastric fundal varices. ⋯ On subsequent outpatient follow-up, the patient showed no signs of any long-term consequences. Our aim is to alert physicians regarding the uncommon occurrence of acute respiratory distress secondary to pulmonary embolism following histoacryl injection sclerotherapy, as well as to describe its clinical and radiological manifestations.

The aim of this study was to investigate the serum level of uric acid (UA) in male patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and to compare the level with that of men without AGA. In addition, the comparison of the serum level of uric acid (UA) before and after treatment with finasteride was performed. ⋯ We found that AGA has a relationship with hyperuricemia, and the level of serum UA can decrease with the treatment of finasteride.

Pathophysiologically, an elevated left ventricular (LV) filling pressure is the major reason for heart failure (HF) readmission. The 2016 American Society of Echocardiography (ASE)/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) guidelines provide a simplified algorithm for the echocardiographic assessment of LV filling pressure; however, this algorithm is yet to be sufficiently validated. ⋯ The present study demonstrated that echocardiographic assessment of elevated LAP based on the 2016 ASE/EACVI guidelines is clinically valid for predicting readmission in patients with HF.

To prepare for rollout of a COVID-19 vaccine in fall 2020, there was an urgent need to understand barriers to ensuring equitable access and addressing vaccine skepticism and resistance. This study aimed to understand the association between trusted sources of COVID-19 information and likelihood of vaccination during that time, focusing on lessons learned to prepare for future public health crises. ⋯ During initial COVID-19 vaccination rollout, trust in healthcare providers and government sources of COVID-19 information was associated with likelihood to vaccinate in FQHC patients. To inform public health planning for future crises, we highlight lessons learned for translating community-relevant insights into direct action to reach those most impacted.

Apolipoprotein B (apoB) is a crucial component that directly reflects the number of atherogenic lipoprotein particles and is closely related to atherosclerosis. However, there was an inconsistency among previous studies in its relationship with mortality. Using nationally representative data, we aimed to investigate the association of apoB with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. ⋯ ApoB was linearly associated with increased risk of cardiovascular mortality and non-linearly associated with all-cause mortality in a U-shaped manner, independently of other cardiovascular risk factors.
