Ossification of the spinal ligament (OSL) is a disease characterized by progressive ectopic ossification or calcification in the tissues of spinal ligament. The molecular pathogenesis of OSL has not been clearly elucidated. Recently, ncRNAs was found to functionally participate in OSL development. This review summarized current knowledge regarding the deregulation and function of ncRNAs in OSL METHODS: Relevant studies on deregulation and function of ncRNAs in OSL were retrieved from the PubMed databases. Then, studies were manually selected for inclusion based on predefined criteria. ⋯ Diagnostic: individual cross-sectional studies with the consistently applied reference standard and blinding.

To identify low back pain (LBP) trajectories from early adolescence through to early adulthood and to investigate whether sustained levels of elevated subclinical C-reactive protein (CRP) are linked with these LBP trajectories. ⋯ Diagnostic: individual cross-sectional studies with the consistently applied reference standard and blinding.

To evaluate the effect of the braced arm-to-thigh technique (BATT) (versus self-selected techniques) on three-dimensional trunk kinematics and spinal loads for three common activities of daily living (ADLs) simulated in the laboratory: weeding (gardening), reaching for an object in a low cupboard, and car egress using the two-legs out technique. ⋯ The BATT substantially reduced L4/L5 extension moments, and L4/L5 compression and shear forces, compared to self-selected methods, for three ADLs, in a small cohort of ten young healthy males without prior history of back pain. These study findings can be used to inform safe procedures for these three ADLs, as the results are considered representative of a mature population.

The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is one of the most common patient-reported outcome measures used for low back pain (LBP). Since it was not available in Indonesian, this study aimed to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of ODI to Indonesian and evaluate its psychometric properties. ⋯ The Indonesian version of ODI displayed similar reliability, validity, and psychometric characteristics to the original ODI. This questionnaire will be a suitable instrument for assessing LBP-related disability for Indonesian-speaking patients.

Treatment failures in spine surgery are often attributable to poor patient selection and the application of inappropriate treatment. We used published appropriate use criteria (AUC) to evaluate the appropriateness of surgery in a large group of patients operated for lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis (LDS) and to evaluate its association with outcome. ⋯ The results suggest a relationship between appropriateness of surgery for LDS and the improvements in COMI score after surgery. The findings require confirmation in prospective studies that also include a control group of non-operated patients.
