This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pelvic incidence and sagittal spinal morphology in Lenke 5 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and its impact on the proximal junctional kyphosis rate after surgery. ⋯ PI influences sagittal spinal morphology in Lenke 5 AIS, although it does not show an inherent relationship with lumbar lordosis. PI also correlates to the PJK rate after surgery. Restoring an ideal postoperative PI-LL relationship could decrease the PJK rate.

Intervertebral device subsidence is one of the complications of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. The biomechanical properties of vertebral bony endplate may be related to device subsidence. The aim of this study is to measure the cervical endplate bone density distribution using a novel 3D measurement method. ⋯ The mechanical properties and the HU were found to be significantly correlated, which employed a novel 3D HU measurement method, thus demonstrating potential to predict cervical endplate failure risk in a clinical setting.

Does prophylactic vertebral augmentation reduce the refracture rate in osteoporotic vertebral fracture patients: a meta-analysis.
In order to prevent the recurrent fracture after vertebral augmentation, the concept of prophylactic vertebral augmentation has been proposed, but its efficacy is still controversial. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of prophylactic vertebral augmentation for prevention of refracture in osteoporotic vertebral fracture patients. ⋯ The current evidence suggested that prophylactic vertebral augmentation might not be appropriate to diminish the risk of new VCF. Therefore, there is a need to investigate the mechanism of refracture and explore other preventive regimens to reduce the risk.
