Although the number of educated women and physicians, and especially neurosurgeons, is increasing worldwide, the educational opportunities, careers, and beliefs concerning female neurosurgeon's status and abilities are undermined. To date, reported studies have focused on the conditions of the work environment, work-life balance, and the academic career of female neurosurgeons. In this study, we aimed to report the patients' viewpoint and how they choose spine physicians. ⋯ Women in surgery, mainly in neurosurgery, are being treated by society in an unequal way. Female surgeons are still discriminated because of their gender. The most patients prefer female physicians to talk to, but still believe that they are incapable to perform spine surgery. We cannot stop this until we change our mindset and perception of reality.

To predict and analyse the unfavourable outcomes of early applicated percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy for lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ This nomogram model has good predictive performance and clinical practicability, which could provide a certain basis for predicting unfavourable outcomes of early applicated PEID for LDH.

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of tract-specific diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics in identifying the responsible segments for neurological dysfunction in cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). ⋯ When considering all cervical segments, AD from the DTI-Dorsal Column exhibited the most significant potential in identifying responsible segments. This potential was found to be superior to that of DTI-Whole spinal cord, aspect ratio, the most stenotic segment, T2 high signals, transverse ratio, motor nerve dysfunction, and sensory nerve dysfunction. The diagnostic effectiveness of both DTI and MRI parameters was notably influenced by the specific cervical spine segment.

To evaluate the validity of intraoperative evoked potential (EP) including motor evoked potential (MEP) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) as a biomarker for predicting neural function changes after thoracic spinal decompression (TSD) surgery. ⋯ The intraoperative EP can predict postoperative neural function changes as a biomarker during TSD. Patient with EP improvement probably has better prognosis for early neural function recovery. The duration of symptom and preoperative neurologic deficit degree may be related to intraoperative EP improvement.

Comparison of the clinical and radiographic outcomes of cortical bone trajectory and traditional trajectory pedicle screw fixation in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the clinical outcomes and radiographic outcomes of cortical bone trajectory (CBT) and traditional trajectory (TT) pedicle screw fixation in patients treated with single-level transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). ⋯ This trial has been registered at the US National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials Registry: NCT03105167.
