Review Case Reports
Spinal extradural arachnoid cysts: a rare entity and review of the literature.
Spinal extradural arachnoid cysts (SEDC) are rare primary spinal lesions, accounting for less than 1% of all spinal epidural lesions. The literature contains only case reports of this pathology, and treatment remains controversial due to its rarity. Major reported SEDC cases are caused by leaking out of cerebrospinal fluid through a dural defect in the thecal sac forming an extradural cyst. Other reports describe non-communicating SEDC cases where the dural defect was not identified. We report a literature review on SEDC and the case of a 53 year‑old female who presented with type IA extradural cyst with subarachnoid space communication. ⋯ The extradural arachnoid cyst is an uncommon entity. Preoperative imaging is one of the determining elements in orienting the therapeutic management of the SEDCs. The choice of the surgical technique must be the least invasive in order to avoid postoperative complications. Subtotal or complete excision of the cyst, followed by obliteration of the communication stalk and repair of the dural defect is the gold standard treatment.

This research aims to compare the clinical outcomes of VBE-TLIF and MIS-TLIF for the treatment of patients with single-level degenerative lumbar diseases. ⋯ Both VBE-TLIF and MIS-TLIF are safe and effective surgical procedures for patients with lumbar diseases, but VBE-TLIF technique is a preferred surgical procedure with merits of reduced surgical trauma and quicker recovery.

Text neck is not associated with neck and upper limb disability in young adults who use smartphones.
The objective of the present study was to correlate neck and upper-limb disabilities with neck flexion in university students who are smartphone users. While handling smartphones, a posture with sustained neck flexion known as "Text Neck" is usually adopted, and some authors related to musculoskeletal symptoms on the neck and the upper limb. However, recent studies state that such an association is questionable. ⋯ There was no association between neck flexion with the DASH and NDI or the grip and lateral pinch strength after the correlation and binary logistic regression analyses. The results show that the scores of DASH, NDI, hand grip and lateral pinch strength, have no association with the maximum neck flexion.

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints in clinical practice and can be caused by a wide variety of conditions. While cervical spine surgery is a well-accepted option for radicular pain and myelopathy, surgery for isolated neck pain is controversial. The identification of the source of pain is challenging and subtle, and misdiagnosis can lead to inappropriate treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS AND RESULTS: We conducted a thorough literature review to discuss and compare different causes of neck pain. We then supplemented the literature with our senior author's expert analysis of treating cervical spine pathology. ⋯ This study provides an in-depth discussion of neck pain and its various presentations, as well as providing insight into treatment strategies and diagnostic pearls that may prevent mistreatment of cervical spine pathology.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A comparison of the effects of thoracolumbar interfascial plane (TLIP) block and erector spinae plane (ESP) block in postoperative acute pain in spinal surgery.
Spinal surgeries are a very painful procedure. New regional techniques for postoperative pain management are being considered. The present study aimed to evaluate the hypothesis that the ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane (ESP) block would lead to lower opioid consumption compared to the thoracolumbar interfascial plane (TLIP) block after lumbar disk surgery. The study's primary objective was to compare postoperative total opioid consumption, and the secondary objective was to assess postoperative pain scores. ⋯ This study demonstrated the analgesic efficacy of both techniques, revealing that the ESP block provides more effective analgesia in patients undergoing lumbar disk surgery.
