The literature is scarce in exploring the role of imaging parameters like ultrasound (US) as a biomarker for surgical outcomes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the associations between skin US parameters and revision surgery following spine lumbar fusion. ⋯ The findings of this study demonstrate a significant association between higher echogenicity values in different layers of the dermis and requiring revision surgery. The results provide insights into the potential use of skin US parameters as predictors for revision surgery. These findings may reflect underlying alterations in collagen. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms driving these associations.

Retrospective cohort analysis. ⋯ The majority of a large cohort of patients with first diagnosis CCS in the absence of bony injury were managed non-operatively. Operative management increased over the years of study, were performed earlier after diagnosis, and varied based on patient characteristic and geographic region.

Outcomes following spinal instrumented fusions in patients with parkinson's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients represent challenging spinal surgery candidates due to associated frailty and deformity. This study consolidates the literature concerning spinal surgery outcomes in PD versus non-PD patients, to evaluate if PD predisposes patients to worse post-operative outcomes, so that treatment protocols can be optimised. ⋯ Although more robust prospective studies are needed, the results of this study highlight the need for advanced wound care management in the postoperative period, both in-hospital and in the community, in addition to comprehensive multidisciplinary care from allied health professionals, with potential for the use of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in PD patients undergoing spinal instrumented fusions.

A comparison of ultrasound volume navigation, O-arm navigation, and X-ray guidance for screw placement in minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion: a randomized controlled trial.
To compare the differences between Ultrasound Volume Navigation (UVN), O-arm Navigation, and conventional X-ray fluoroscopy-guided screw placement in Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (MIS-TLIF) surgeries. ⋯ UVN-guided screw placement in MIS-TLIF surgeries demonstrates comparable efficiency, visualization, and accuracy to O-arm navigation, while significantly reducing radiation exposure compared to both O-arm navigation and X-ray guidance. However, UVN may be influenced by factors like obesity, limiting its application.
