There have been several studies regarding the relationship between deglutition and the cervical spine; however, the movement of the cervical spine during deglutition has not been specifically studied. The purpose of the present study was to clarify how the cervical spine moves during normal deglutition. ⋯ These findings suggest that the cervical spine moves to reduce physiological lordosis during deglutition.

Disc prosthesis replacement and interbody fusion in the treatment of degenerative cervical disc disease: comparative analysis of 176 consecutive cases.
The purpose of this retrospective analysis is to determine whether disc prosthesis replacement can be equivalent or superior compared with the disc interbody fusion. ⋯ Our experience demonstrates that the use of disc prosthesis is a safe and effective alternative to interbody fusion.

The pathomechanism of cervical myelopathy due to cervical ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (C-OPLL) remains unclear. No previous literature has quantified the influence of dynamic factors on cervical myelopathy due to C-OPLL. The purpose was to investigate the influence of dynamic factors on the spinal column in the patients with C-OPLL using CT scan after myelography (MCT). ⋯ Dynamic factors are seen both in cervical myelopathy patients with the continuous type of OPLL and others. Deterioration of myelopathy could be induced by motion effects even in the connection department of OPLL.

Coccygeal instability includes hypermobility, subluxation and fracture-dislocation. Surgical resection is still controversial, with intractable post-traumatic coccygodynia being an indication to surgery. ⋯ Coccygectomy is the treatment of choice for post-traumatic instability. Patients' selection allowed excellent or good results. This study favors a more aggressive approach including total resection of the coccyx.

This study aimed at reporting the results of a transthoracic approach in the treatment of patients with calcified giant herniated thoracic discs (HTDs). ⋯ Transthoracic decompression combined with reconstruction, fusion, and fixation is an effective method for the treatment of these lesions and is associated with a low rate of complications, morbidity, and neurological impairment.
