Intervertebral vacuum phenomenon (IVP) and paraspinal muscular atrophy are age-related changes in the lumbar spine. The relationship between both parameters has not been investigated. We aimed to analyze the correlation between IVP and paraspinal muscular atrophy in addition to describing the lumbar vacuum severity (LVS) scale, a new parameter to estimate lumbar degeneration. ⋯ IVP severity is positively correlated with paraspinal muscular fatty infiltration. This correlation was stronger for the multifidus than the erector spinae. No correlations were observed in the psoas muscle. The lumbar vacuum severity scale was significantly correlated with advanced disc degeneration with vacuum phenomenon.

To predict and analyse the unfavourable outcomes of early applicated percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy for lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ This nomogram model has good predictive performance and clinical practicability, which could provide a certain basis for predicting unfavourable outcomes of early applicated PEID for LDH.

To evaluate the neuronal metrics/microstructure of the spinal cord around apical region in patients with hyperkyphosis using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). ⋯ In patients with hyperkyphosis, the FA of spinal cord at apical level was associated with the neuronal metrics/microstructure of the spinal cord. Furthermore, the DTI parameter of FA at apical level was associated with GK and sagittal DAR.

The objective of this study was to examine the relationships between BMI and intervertebral disc degeneration (DD), disc herniation (DH) and spinal stenosis (SS) using a large, prospectively recruited and heterogeneous patient population. ⋯ While an increase in BMI was associated with only a slight increase in DD, it was a stronger predictor for DH and SS, particularly in the upper lumbar discs, suggesting weight loss could be a useful strategy for helping prevent disorders associated with these pathologies.

Retrospective Cohort Study with prospectively collected data. ⋯ TTIF is a feasible procedure in the thoracic spine. Kyphosis correction of approximately 10° was maintained at 1-year and final follow-up. Over 69% at 1-year and 61% at 2-year follow-up achieved MCID for COMI.
