To investigate the role of depressive symptoms on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing spinal surgery up to 2-year follow-up. ⋯ Functional disability and mental health status improve in patients with depression symptoms undergoing spinal surgery. Despite this improvement, they do not reach the values of non-depressed subjects. Over the 2-year follow-up time, patients with depression show a different trajectory of ODI and MCS. Caregivers should be aware of these results to counsel patients with depression symptoms.

Over the last years, interest and efforts to implement augmented reality (AR) in orthopedic surgery through head-mounted devices (HMD) have increased. However, the majority of experiments were preclinical and within a controlled laboratory environment. The operating room (OR) is a more challenging environment with various confounding factors potentially affecting the performance of an AR-HMD. The aim of this study was to assess the performance of an AR-HMD in a real-life OR setting. ⋯ AR-HMDs are affected by different OR setups. Standardization measures for better AR-HMD performance include avoiding direct light illumination on the situs, setting up partitions, and minimizing the movement of personnel.

Only a few publications considered the influence of the spinopelvic parameters on below-hip anatomy. There is a lack of evidence about the relationship between the anatomic spinopelvic parameters and the posterior tibial slope (PTS). Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the association between fixed anatomic spinopelvic parameters and PTS. ⋯ This study is the first to support a positive correlation between the PI and the PTS. We demonstrate that knee anatomy is individually correlated to pelvic shape and therefore influences spinal posture.

Adjacent segment degeneration (ASDeg) after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) seriously affects the long-term efficacy of the operation. Therefore, our team has done a lot of research on allograft intervertebral disc transplantation (AIDT) to prove its feasibility and safety. This study will compare the efficacy between AIDT and ACDF in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. ⋯ The allograft intervertebral disc transplantation may be as an alternative technique to traditional anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for the management of cervical degenerative diseases. For the more, the results showed it would improve cervical kinematics and reduce the incidence of adjacent segment degeneration.

There is an increased demand for surgical solutions to treat craniocervical instability. This retrospective study demonstrates the clinical and radiological outcomes of unstable craniocervical junction treated with occipitocervical fusion. ⋯ Occipitocervical fusion can yield excellent results regarding clinical improvement and long-term stability with a high fusion rate. Simple reconstruction plates, though more demanding surgically, achieve similar results. Preserving a neutral patient's position for fixation avoids postoperative dysphagia and may help prevent adjacent segment disease development.
