Breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) benefit from local control. However, RT can give rise to increased fatigue, lowering quality of life. The aim of this study was to prospectively identify trends and risk factors in patient-reported fatigue associated with breast RT. ⋯ Fatigue associated with breast irradiation increased up to 6 weeks during RT and returned to near baseline scores at 1-3 months post treatment. Given that fatigue was significant in mastectomy patients, further research is needed to reduce fatigue among this cohort, especially those who have received previous chemotherapy and younger patients who are receiving breast RT.

ReviewChemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN): current therapies and topical treatment option with high-concentration capsaicin.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment are drastic events for patients and their families. Besides psychological aspects of the disease, patients are often affected by severe side effects related to the cancer itself or as a result of therapeutic interventions. Particularly, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is the most prevalent neurological complication of oral or intravenous chemotherapy. ⋯ In this review, we summarize current recommendations of leading national and international societies regarding prevention and treatment options in CIPN. A special focus will be placed on current evidence for topical treatment of CIPN with high-dose capsaicin. Finally, an algorithm for CIPN treatment in clinical practice is provided, including both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic modalities based on the clinical presentation.

Distinct profiles of multiple co-occurring symptoms in patients with gastrointestinal cancers receiving chemotherapy.
Identify subgroups of gastrointestinal (GI) cancer patients with distinct multiple co-occurring symptom profiles and evaluate for differences among these subgroups in demographic and clinical characteristics and quality of life (QOL) outcomes. ⋯ The first study to identify subgroups of patients with GI cancers based on distinct symptom profiles. LCA allowed for the identification of risk factors associated with a higher symptom burden. Clinicians can use this information to identify high-risk patients and develop personalized symptom management interventions.

Febrile neutropenia and role of prophylactic granulocyte colony-stimulating factor in docetaxel and cyclophosphamide chemotherapy for breast cancer.
Febrile neutropenia (FN) incidence during docetaxel and cyclophosphamide (TC) chemotherapy, known as a high-risk regimen, differs among countries. The role of prophylactic granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in FN is unclear. This study aimed to investigate FN frequency and relative dose intensity (RDI) of TC chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer and identify the correct population requiring prophylactic G-CSF. ⋯ FN frequency during TC chemotherapy was high, and primary prophylactic G-CSF reduced FN incidence. Primary prophylactic G-CSF is an effective therapy for preventing FN during TC chemotherapy. However, prophylactic G-CSF should be considered for elderly patients based on the low hospitalization rate and the high RDI.

Correlation between an integrative oncology treatment program and survival in patients with advanced gynecological cancer.
Integrative oncology (IO) is increasingly becoming part of palliative cancer care. This study examined the correlation between an IO treatment program and rates of survival among patients with advanced gynecological cancer. ⋯ Adherence to an IO treatment program was associated with higher survival rates among patients with advanced gynecological cancer. Larger prospective trials are needed to explore whether the IO setting enhances patients' resilience, coping, and adherence to oncology treatment.
