Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the French version of the Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) in hip osteoarthritis patients.
To translate and adapt the Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) into French and to evaluate the psychometric properties of this new version, by testing feasibility, internal consistency, construct validity, reliability and responsiveness, in patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ The French version of HOOS demonstrated good psychometric properties and appears to be useful for the evaluation of patient-relevant outcome whatever the severity of hip OA. This study provides a basis for the use of this French version of the HOOS in future clinical trials.

Predictors of moderate-severe functional limitation after primary Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA): 4701 TKAs at 2-years and 2935 TKAs at 5-years.
Investigate whether body mass index (BMI), comorbidity, gender and age predict patient-reported functional limitation 2- and 5-years after primary Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ Modifiable (BMI, comorbidity) and non-modifiable predictors (age, gender) increased the risk of functional limitation and walking-aid dependence after primary TKA. Interventions targeting comorbidity and BMI pre-operatively may positively impact function post-TKA.

Effects of a metalloproteinase inhibitor on osteochondral angiogenesis, chondropathy and pain behavior in a rat model of osteoarthritis.
To investigate the effects of a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor on joint pathology and pain behavior in the rat meniscal transection (MNX) model of osteoarthritis (OA) and evaluate which aspects of structural disease modification contribute to symptom improvement. ⋯ Here we show that treatment with a MMP inhibitor reduces joint damage, osteochondral angiogenesis and behavioral evidence of pain. The association between osteochondral angiogenesis and pain behavior may be explained by perivascular nerve growth or stimulation of subchondral nerves following loss of osteochondral integrity. Our data suggest that targeting angiogenesis may have utility in the treatment of pain associated with structural damage in OA.

ADAMTS-5 deficient mice do not develop mechanical allodynia associated with osteoarthritis following medial meniscal destabilization.
To characterize pain-related behavior during the course of knee osteoarthritis (OA) induced by destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) in wild type (WT) and in ADAMTS-5 null mice. ⋯ Joint pathology following DMM surgery in mice is associated with progressive mechanical allodynia. ADAMTS-5 null mice are resistant to DMM-induced OA-like lesions and to the associated mechanical allodynia.
