Comparative StudyPain in patients with equal radiographic grades of osteoarthritis in both knees: the value of gray scale ultrasound.
To investigate the association of ultrasound (US) features with pain and the functional scores in patients with equal radiographic grades of osteoarthritis (OA) in both knees. ⋯ US inflammation features, including SPE and MCS, were positively linearly associated with knee pain in motion. MCS was also degree-dependently associated with pain at rest and the presence of medial knee pain. These findings show that synovitis was one important predictive factor of pain. Further studies to confirm the association of US features and pain are warranted.

Comparative StudyKnee cartilage defects in a sample of older adults: natural history, clinical significance and factors influencing change over 2.9 years.
To describe the natural history of knee cartilage defects, and their relationship to cartilage volume loss and risk of knee replacement in a longitudinal study of older adults. ⋯ Knee cartilage defects in older adults are common but less likely to regress than in younger life. They independently predict cartilage volume loss and risk of knee replacement, suggesting they are potential targets for intervention.
