Comparative StudyComparison of periprosthetic tissues in knee and hip joints: differential expression of CCL3 and DC-STAMP in total knee and hip arthroplasty and similar cytokine profiles in primary knee and hip osteoarthritis.
To identify expression profiles (EP) associated with aseptic loosening of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and to compare them with EP observed in total hip arthroplasty (THA), and primary knee and hip osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ Comparing to OA, aseptic loosening of TKA is associated with upregulated expression of CHIT1, IL-8 and MMP9, dysregulated RANKL:OPG ratio and low levels of inflammatory cytokines. Similar cytokine profiles were associated with primary knee and hip OA. Further research is required to explain the differences in CCL3 and DC-STAMP expression between failed TKA and THA.

Review Meta AnalysisEfficacy of rehabilitation programs for improving muscle strength in people with hip or knee osteoarthritis: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
To analyse the effect of exercise-based rehabilitation programs for improving lower limb muscle strength in individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis (OA). A systematic search utilizing seven databases identified randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating lower limb strength outcomes of exercise-based interventions for participants with hip or knee OA. All studies were screened for eligibility and methodological quality. ⋯ Only one study reported on a population with hip OA. When compared to a control group, high-intensity resistance exercise demonstrated moderate quality of evidence for large and sustained improvements for knee muscle strength in knee OA patients. Further work is needed to compare different modes of exercise at a LT follow-up for knee OA patients and to address the dearth of literature evaluating exercise interventions in people with hip OA.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialKnee arthroscopic surgery is beneficial to middle-aged patients with meniscal symptoms: a prospective, randomised, single-blinded study.
There is no evidence that a knee arthroscopy is more beneficial to middle-aged patients with meniscal symptoms compared to other treatments. This randomised controlled trial aimed to determine whether an arthroscopic intervention combined with a structured exercise programme would provide more benefit than a structured exercise programme alone for middle-aged patients with meniscal symptoms that have undergone physiotherapy. ⋯ Middle-aged patients with meniscal symptoms may benefit from arthroscopic surgery in addition to a structured exercise programme. Patients' age or symptom history (i.e., mechanical symptoms or acute onset of symptoms) didn't affect the outcome.
