SOX9 is a regulator of ADAMTSs-induced cartilage degeneration at the early stage of human osteoarthritis.
To identify whether cartilage master regulator SRY-related protein 9 (SOX9) mediates A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs (ADAMTS) dysregulation during osteoarthritis (OA) cartilage degeneration. ⋯ These findings indicated that SOX9 upregulation might mediate ADAMTSs suppression at the early stage of human OA. In addition, SOX9 could be used as a potential therapeutic agent for human OA at an early stage.

Bone turnover and articular cartilage differences localized to subchondral cysts in knees with advanced osteoarthritis.
To investigate changes in bone structure, turnover, and articular cartilage localized in subchondral bone cyst (SBC) regions associated with knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ SBCs within knee OA are characterized by focally increased bone turnover, altered bone structure and more severe articular cartilage damage. The increased bone turnover possibly contributes to altered bone structure localized in SBC areas, and thus aggravates articular cartilage degeneration.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyHuo-Luo-Xiao-Ling (HLXL)-Dan, a Traditional Chinese Medicine, for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee: a multi-site, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase II clinical trial.
To examine the efficacy and safety of Huo-Luo-Xiao-Ling (HLXL)-Dan, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). ⋯ Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT00755326).
