Positive association between blood pressure (BP) and uric acid is evident, but specific effect size of serum uric acid (SUA) at different levels on BP is unclear, and interaction effect of SUA with other metabolic factors on BP was rarely reported. A cross-sectional study was conducted by making use of data from an epidemic investigation. A total of 3658 subjects were enrolled in our data analysis. ⋯ This difference was not observed in DBP and females. Interaction effects between SUA and BMI, TG, FPG on BP were discovered. In conclusion, higher level of SUA has a stronger effect on BP and other metabolic factors: FPG, TG, and BMI could strengthen the effect of SUA on BP.

Circulating miRNA29 family expression levels in patients with essential hypertension as potential markers for left ventricular hypertrophy.
The role of microRNAs (miRs,miRNAs) in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, as well as their diagnostic potential, has recently attracted much attention. However, target-organ damage (TOD) of hypertension remains a substantial challenge due to the lack of specific biomarkers. The present study was undertaken to identify and validate the potential of circulating miRs as novel biomarkers for TOD. ⋯ Circulating the miR-29 family may possibly represent potential non-invasive markers of hypertension and TOD in essential hypertensive patients.

The placental vascular endothelial growth factor polymorphisms and preeclampsia/preeclampsia severity.
Preeclampsia (PE) is a serious pregnancy-specific condition, which originates from placenta and finishes after delivery. The present study has investigated the association between placental VEGF I/D (rs35569394), -1154G/A (rs1570360), and -634G/C(rs2010963) polymorphisms and maternal VEGF -2549 I/D (rs35569394) polymorphism with PE and PE severity. In this case-control study, the maternal blood of 217 women with PE and 210 normotensive pregnant women and the placenta of 84 PE women and 103 normotensive women were collected after delivery. ⋯ However, the placental IAG haplotype was associated with 0.3-fold lower risk of PE. In conclusion, the placental VEGF -2549 DD genotype was associated with severe PE and the placental -634GC and CC genotypes were associated with PE and severe PE. No association was found between VEGF -1154G/A polymorphism and PE or PE severity.

Aspirin attenuates monocrotaline-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension in rats by suppressing the ERK/MAPK pathway.
This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of aspirin (ASA) and its potential mechanisms of action in monocrotaline (MCT)-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in rats. PAH was induced in a rat model by a single intraperitoneal (IP) injection of MCT. Saline was injected in a control group. ⋯ The density of pulmonary capillaries in ASA-treated rats was also dramatically increased. Treatment with ASA significantly inhibited the increased p-ERK1/2 and restored the impaired endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in MCT-treated rats. This study demonstrated that ASA distinctively attenuates MCT-induced PAH by inhibition of the ERK1/2 signaling pathway.
