Improvement of exhausted cerebral autoregulation in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension benefit of venous sinus stenting.
Objective. To evaluate the cerebral autoregulation (CA) in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) patients with transfer function analysis, and to explore its improvement after venous sinus stenting. Approach. ⋯ Significance. The study revealed that dynamic CA was impaired in IIH patients and was improved after venous sinus stenting. CA assessment has the potential to be used for investigating the hemodynamics in IIH patients.

Randomized Controlled TrialPositive end-expiratory pressure titration with electrical impedance tomography and pressure-volume curve: a randomized trial in moderate to severe ARDS.
The aim of the study was to compare titration of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) with electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and with ventilator-embedded pressure-volume (PV) loop in moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ In moderate to severe ARDS, PEEP titration guided with EIT, compared with PV curve, might be associated with improved driving pressure and survival rate.

Estimated and measured core temperature responses to high-intensity warm weather military training: implications for exertional heat illness risk assessment.
Humans avoid overheating through physiological and behavioral mechanisms. However, elite athletes, industrial workers, and military personnel, driven by the tasks at hand, may choose to continue working and face an increased risk of exertional heat illness (EHI). We wanted to examine the efficacy of a new core temperature (Tcr) estimation algorithm in assessing EHI risk. ⋯ The Tcr-est successfully tracked Tcr in the HOT group with high risk of exertional heat illness (EHI) (40% incidence). Skin temperature complexity shows promise as a non-invasive means of insight into the state of thermoregulatory control mechanisms.

Characterization of lung-to-finger circulation time in sleep study assessment: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
Lung-to-finger circulation time (LFCT) measured from sleep studies may reflect underlying cardiac dysfunction. We aimed to examine the distribution of LFCT in community-dwelling men and women in order to better understand the factors determining LFCT between and within subjects. ⋯ Automated LFCT measurement was highly correlated with visual-based LFCT measurement. In this group of community-dwelling adults, male sex and older age were associated with higher average LFCT.

Four-second dynamic exercise testing (T4S) for the assessment of cardiac vagal modulation in obese adolescents.
Reduced vagal activity is often present in obese adolescents. Simple and practical strategies for the assessment of isolate parasympathetic outflow in this population are therefore useful. ⋯ The T4S proved to be adequate to detect cardiac parasympathetic impairment in obese adolescents. Moreover, vagal modulation assessed by HRV and T4S inversely correlated with visceral adipose tissue. These findings along with the simplicity and safety of the T4S should encourage its use in the assessment of cardiac parasympathetic modulation in obese pediatric populations.
