Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe effect of total synovectomy in total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized controlled study.
The apparent synovial hypertrophy in some cases of noninflammatory knee osteoarthritis suggests that total synovectomy may provide beneficial inflammatory and pain relief after total knee arthroplasty. The aim of the study was to compare the effect of synovectomy on the postoperative pain, bleeding and functional outcome after surgical treatment of knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Performing synovectomy in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis does not seem to have any clinical advantage besides it might increase blood loss and recurrent hemarthrosis postoperatively. Thus, during arthroplasty surgery, it should not be performed routinely.

Comparative StudyClinical and radiographic outcomes of minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty through a lateral approach.
With increasing confidence and surgical experience, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is now being applied to more complicated cases. The present study assessed the feasibility of MIS-TKA using a lateral approach for valgus knees. ⋯ From the perspectives of postoperative pain, clinical scores, radiographic accuracy, and postoperative complication rate, lateral MIS-TKA achieved comparable or superior results to medial MIS-TKA. This technique may offer a promising technical option that can be utilized for most patients with valgus knee deformity.

Treatment of peroneal tendon dislocation and coexisting medial and lateral ligamentous laxity in the ankle joint.
Acute dislocation of the peroneal tendon is caused by massive combined flexion-torsion trauma supported by preexisting ligamentous laxity of the ankle joint. This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcome of combined treatment of peroneal tendon dislocation and lateral and medial ligamentous laxity. ⋯ Case series, Level IV.

Three- to six-year follow-up results after high-flexion total knee arthroplasty: can we allow passive deep knee bending?
We evaluated 3- to 6-year clinical and radiological follow-up results after NexGen® LPS-flex total knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ While NexGen® LPS-flex TKA satisfactorily improved ROM, it was associated with a relatively high incidence of early loosening of the femoral components. This might be associated with passive-maximal flexion activity, such as squatting or kneeling. The clinical relevance of this study is that squatting or kneeling, common activity in Asian, may not be allowed after NexGen® LPS-flex TKA.
