ReviewPotential superiority of periarticular injection in analgesic effect and early mobilization ability over femoral nerve block following total knee arthroplasty.
Pain management after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) should permit early knee mobilization with minimal pain. Periarticular injection (PAI) with local anaesthetics has been recently discussed as a protocol of pain control. The purpose of this review of the literature was to evaluate the efficacy of PAI in comparison with femoral nerve block (FNB). ⋯ I.

Methylprednisolone reduces pain and decreases knee swelling in the first 24 h after fast-track unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) results in less operative trauma and faster patient recovery than after a conventional total knee arthroplasty. Despite an increased focus on multimodal analgesic strategies, there is still a substantial level of patient-reported pain in the early postsurgical period after UKA. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of a single preoperative dose of systemic methylprednisolone on postsurgical pain after fast-track UKA. ⋯ Therapeutic study, Level II.

Correlation of alpha angle between various radiographic projections and radial magnetic resonance imaging for cam deformity in femoral head-neck junction.
Radial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) along the axis of the femoral head neck is the gold standard for detection of cam deformity of the proximal femur. This study was performed to identify which plain radiographic projection was best correlated with radial MRI. ⋯ II.

Ischiofemoral impingement and hamstring dysfunction as a potential pain generator after ischial tuberosity apophyseal fracture non-union/malunion.
The purpose of this study was to describe the occurrence of ischiofemoral impingement (IFI) and hamstring dysfunction following malunion or non-union of ischial tuberosity apophyseal avulsion fractures and report the short-term outcomes of surgical treatment with regard to alleviating symptomatic extra-articular impingement. ⋯ IV.
