This study aimed to clarify differences in the prognostic impact of tumor spread through air spaces (STAS) in lobectomy versus sublobar resection (SR). The study also investigated the frequency and significance of STAS in residual lung segments. ⋯ For patients with p-stage 1A lung cancer who have undergone SR, STAS is a prognostic indicator of poor outcomes. The presence of STAS does occasionally exist in the residual lung segments.

Perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion is associated with poor oncologic outcomes in multiple malignancies. The effect of blood transfusion on recurrence and survival in distal cholangiocarcinoma (DCC) is not known. ⋯ Perioperative blood transfusion is associated with decreased RFS and OS after resection for distal cholangiocarcinoma, after accounting for known adverse pathologic factors. Volume of transfusion seems to exert an independent effect, as 1 unit was not associated with the same adverse effects as ≥ 2 units.

The efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy (NAT), including neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and neoadjuvant chemo-radiotherapy (NACRT), for patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) has not been elucidated. This study aimed to clarify the efficacy of NAC and NACRT for patients with BRPC. ⋯ The study showed that NAT has potential benefit for patients with BRPC. Compared with NAC, NACRT decreased the rates for lymph node metastasis and local recurrence but did not improve the prognosis.
