ReviewHyperinflammation and Immune Response Generation in COVID-19.
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide. The pathophysiology of this virus is not very clearly known, thus, enormous efforts are being made by the scientific community to delineate its evading mechanism. ⋯ The inflammatory response generated after infection by increased proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and complement proteins activation may likely contribute to disease severity. We also discussed the other factors that may affect immunity and could be important comorbidities in the disease severity and outcome.

Effect of Ceftiofur on Hyperalgesia and Allodynia in a Rat Neuropathic Pain Model: The Role of Immune Processes.
Inflammatory and immune mechanisms play important roles in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. Ceftiofur, a third-generation cephalosporin, has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, nuclear factor (NF)-κB, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ceftiofur on hyperalgesia and allodynia in neuropathic rats and to define the possible contribution of immune mechanisms to this effect. ⋯ Ceftiofur has anti-inflammatory effects by decreasing iNOS, IL-1β, and p38 MAPK expression in lumbar spinal cord, and treatment of neuropathic rats with repeated doses of ceftiofur for 14 days results in antihyperalgesic effects.

No Overlap among Serum GAD65, NMDAR and AQP4 Antibodies in Patients with Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders.
To evaluate whether serum glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor (NMDAR), and aquaporin-4 (AQP4) autoantibodies coexist in patients with neuromyelitis optica (NMO)/NMO spectrum disorders (NMOSD). ⋯ In the present study, we found no simultaneous presence of serum GAD65, NMDAR and AQP4 antibodies in patients with NMO/NMOSD.

Stress-Induced Glucocorticoid Release Upregulates Uncoupling Protein-2 Expression and Enhances Resistance to Endotoxin-Induced Lethality.
Although psychological and/or physiological stress has been well documented to influence immune responses, the precise mechanism for immunomodulation remains to be elucidated. The present work describes the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in the mechanism of stress-mediated enhanced-resistance to lethality after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection. ⋯ The present work suggests that RS enhances activation of the HPA axis to release glucocorticoids and upregulation of UCP2 in macrophages, thereby increasing the resistance to endotoxin-induced systemic inflammation and death.
