Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of pressure support and T-tube weaning from mechanical ventilation: randomized prospective study.
To compare T-tube and pressure support ventilation (PSV) as two methods of weaning patients from mechanical ventilation. ⋯ In patients with weaning difficulties, PSV with 8 cm H(2)O was more successful weaning method than T-tube.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEffects of corticosteroids on inflammatory response following cardiopulmonary bypass.
To investigate the effects of corticosteroids on the reduction of inflammatory response after cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ It seems that the administration of corticosteroids prior to the initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass may alleviate the intensity of the inflammatory response, as evidenced by reduced increase in inflammatory mediators.

Clinical TrialLong-term benefits of laparoscopic appendectomy for chronic abdominal pain in fertile women.
To assess long-term benefit of laparoscopic appendectomy for chronic abdominal pain of unknown origin in fertile women. ⋯ Diagnostic laparoscopy is a diagnostic and therapeutic option in most fertile women with chronic abdominal right iliac fossa pain of unknown origin. Our results showed low postoperative complications and no mortality rate with laparoscopic appendectomy indicate removal of appendix as a part of diagnostic laparoscopy when the origin of pain is unknown. In some cases of persistent pain, the removal of appendix is beneficial by eliminating appendicitis in differential diagnosis.

Assessment of the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ): Serbian translation.
To test the discriminative metric properties and specificity of the Serbian version of the Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) for assessment of the quality of life in asthma patients. ⋯ Disease severity, place of residence, weather conditions, age, and FEV1 (% predicted) were significantly related to quality of life in our patients. The Serbian version of AQLQ was highly reliable.

Epidemiology of central nervous system tumors in Labin area, Croatia, 1974-2001.
To establish the incidence of tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) in the population of Labin area in Istria, Croatia, characterized by very little population migration. ⋯ Primary CNS tumors showed high, but temporally stable incidence in population of Labin area over the last 27 years, indicating that the alleged increase in CNS tumors incidence was not true.
