Sepsis and septic shock - an observational study of the incidence, management, and mortality predictors in a medical intensive care unit.
To prospectively determine the number of patients with sepsis and septic shock in a medical intensive care unit (ICU) using the Sepsis-3 definition; to analyze patients' characteristics, clinical signs, diagnostic test results, treatment and outcomes; and to define independent risk factors for ICU mortality. ⋯ While reduced mobility level and SOFA score are predetermined characteristics, early recognition of sepsis and the choice of appropriate antimicrobial treatment could be subject to change. Raising awareness of sepsis among emergency department physicians could improve its early recognition and increase the number of timely obtained specimens for microbial cultures.

The incidence of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome in the population of Zagreb, Croatia.
To estimate the incidence of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in the population of Zagreb, Croatia, and to determine the patients' demographic and clinical characteristics. ⋯ The data obtained in this study can be used to optimize disease surveillance in population, comprehensive assessment of disease burden, and organization of health care services.

Development and application of the Commitment to Profession of Medicine Scale using classical test theory and item response theory.
To determine the level of professional commitment of medical students by developing and applying a new scale. ⋯ There are many factors affecting professional commitment levels of university students. Therefore, it is of great importance to examine students' commitment at an early stage. In addition, the experiences of students during university years are important since they directly affect the commitment level. Considering these factors, teachers should support their students and strive to increase their commitment levels.

Clinical characteristics of hospitalized adults and adolescents with herpes zoster in Croatia: more than 20 years of a single-center experience.
To evaluate the clinical characteristics of adult and adolescent Croatian patients hospitalized for herpes zoster over a period of 21 years in the largest national center for infectious diseases (catchment area approximately 25% of the Croatian population). ⋯ The patients most frequently hospitalized for herpes zoster are elderly people burdened with comorbidities, not necessarily patients with complicated forms of the disease.

Comparative StudyMicrosurgical versus endoscopic surgery for non-functioning pituitary adenomas: a retrospective study.
To compare microsurgical technique (mTSS) and endoscopic technique (eTSS) in the treatment of non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs). ⋯ There was no major difference between the approaches in surgery radicality or safeness. However, eTSS remains the method of choice due to its potentially higher postoperative preservation of hormonal functions.
