Clinical TrialThe effect of atorvastatin on the common carotid artery intima-media thickness in patients with ischemic stroke.
Occlusion of the initial segment of internal carotid artery is the most common reason for vascular events in the brain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of one-year treatment with atorvastatin on intima-media thickness (IMT) of carotid arteries as a measure of atherosclerosis in stroke patients. In this prospective interventional study, 44 patients with ischemic stroke were investigated. ⋯ The IMT of both right and left carotid arteries decreased after 6- and 12-month atorvastatin treatment. Based on the results of this study, long-term administration of atorvastatin was associated with reduction in carotid artery IMT in patients with ischemic stroke. Such a decrease in IMT may prevent subsequent stroke or cardiovascular events in these patients.

Regional and sociodemographic determinants of the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children aged 7-9 years in Croatia.
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and analyze the determinants of overweight and obesity among Croatian schoolchildren aged 7-9 years in relation to sociodemographic factors. This study used data that were gathered as part of the WHO Europe Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative in 2015/2016. The sample for the study was nationally representative. ⋯ The risk of overweight and obesity was increased in boys living in the Adriatic region (ORadj=1.33; 95% CI 1.03-1.71) and in girls with high-school educated mothers (ORadj=1.36; 95% CI 1.11-1.66). Girls with unemployed mothers had a lower risk of overweight and obesity (ORadj=0.73; 95% CI 0.58-0.92). The observed prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity warrants national and local time-bound targets for reduction of childhood obesity, accompanied by detailed action plans and monitoring mechanisms.

Independent factors FOR poor prognosis in young patients with stage I-III breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in the population of women under 40 years of age. Young age is an independent factor for poor prognosis. In this research, we tried to establish other factors for poor prognosis in stage I-III breast cancer. ⋯ Patients with pN0 status had better overall survival. Breast cancer in the population of young women has a more aggressive nature. Study results indicated positive lymph node status as an independent factor for poor prognosis of stage I-III breast cancer.

The effect of age On cervical cancer screening in women aged 20-29.
No definite consensus exists currently regarding the appropriate age at which to start cervical cancer screening. We analyzed the effectiveness of age in abnormal histology outcomes in women aged 20-29. Data on women aged 20-29 having undergone opportunistic cervical cancer screening with cytology during the 2014-2019 period were retrospectively reviewed. ⋯ The occurrence of CIN (+) lesions increased 1.149 times each year; thus, women aged 25-29 were more likely to have CIN (+) than those aged 20-24 (4.4% vs. 2.1%; p=0.019). A significant determinant of CIN (+) was the increase in age, i.e. women aged 20-29. Accordingly, considering age is crucial for the diagnosis of CIN (+) in cancer screening.

HPV TYPING AS A SCREENING PROGRAM FOR PREVENTION AND EARLY DETECTION OF CERVICAL CANCER IN DIFFERENT MONTENEGRO REGIONS.
The objective of our research was to compare the results of human papillomavirus (HPV) typing and occurrence of the most important risk factors for cervical cancer obtained in the towns of northern, central and southern regions of Montenegro, in subjects between 30 and 35 years of age, in accordance with the new screening program introduced by the Ministry of Health of Montenegro in 2018. The study included 400 patients aged 30-35 years from Rožaje, Berane, Budva and Podgorica, 100 from each town, who underwent HPV typing in accordance with the latest screening program for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, approved by the Ministry of Health of Montenegro in 2018. The material was obtained and sampled at the Health Clinics in Rožaje, Berane, Podgorica and Budva. ⋯ The group of HPV positive women included significantly more women from Podgorica (χ2-test=26.455, p<0.001), women with very good living conditions (χ2-test=12.264, p<0.001), women who smoked cigarettes (χ2-test=5.074, p=0.024), women who had the first sexual intercourse between the ages of 17 and 20 (χ2-test=5.874, p=0.015), and women who did not have permanent partners (χ2-test=6.061, p=0.014). Among the observed socio-demographic characteristics and sexual behaviors of our subjects that proved to be non-significant variables in their HPV statuses we excluded the length of smoking habit (χ2-test=0.638, p=0.424) and protected sexual intercourse (χ2-test=2.628, p=0.105). By implementing the screening program and HPV typing, we came to a conclusion that the problem of cervical cancer could be solved or at least mitigated by raising awareness of the causes and incidence of cervical cancer, as well as by being well informed on its curability, predictability and protection during intercourse, which would contribute to positive changes.
