Multicenter Study
Trauma mechanism and patient reported outcome in tibial plateau fractures with posterior involvement.
Posterior tibial plateau fractures (PTPF) have a high impact on functional outcome and the optimal treatment strategy is not well established. The goal of this study was to assess the relationship between trauma mechanism, fracture morphology and functional outcome in a large multicenter cohort and define possible strategies to improve the outcome. ⋯ Fracture morphology, varus trauma mechanism and delayed-staged surgery (i.e. extensive soft-tissue injury) were identified as important prognostic factors on postoperative outcome in PTPF. In order to assess possible improvement of outcome, future studies with routine preoperative MRI to assess associated ligamentous injury in tibial plateau fractures (especially for varus trauma) are needed.

Forgotten Joint Score: Comparison between total and unicondylar knee arthroplasty.
The aim of this study is to assess the Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) with both short- and long-term follow-up. ⋯ This cross-sectional study has shown; superior FJSs for UKA compared to TKA and superior FJSs for a fixed bearing compared to a mobile bearing UKA and therefore supports the use of UKA opposed to TKA where the indications for UKA are satisfied. For TKA the FJS in the five-year post-operative group were significantly superior to those in the one-year post-operative group.

Prior research has demonstrated that physician desire to optimize patient satisfaction is a cause of over-prescription of opioid medications in the healthcare setting. The purpose of this study was to investigate what effect, if any, decreased opioid prescribing following arthroscopic meniscectomy had on Press-Ganey (PG) satisfaction survey scores. ⋯ A reduction in opioids prescribed after arthroscopic meniscectomy was not associated with any difference in patient satisfaction with pain management, as measured by the Press-Ganey survey. LOE: 3.

Opioid use prior to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is known to have detrimental influence on postoperative outcomes. Whether or not the same is true for tramadol is currently unclear. The aim of this study was to clarify the relationship between preoperative tramadol and postoperative complications. ⋯ Level III, Prognostic.
