Autotitrating continuous positive airway pressure (APAP) devices have the potential to address some of the disadvantages of titration and treatment with conventional continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Information on the performance of APAP in clinical use is still comparatively limited. ⋯ APAP shows promise in the management of OSA; however, given the exclusion of some categories of patients from trials of this technology, caution is still required in its use.

Health authorities create and maintain administrative databases. Despite the potential advantages of these databases, the validity of the information they include must be considered. ⋯ Most RAMQ-diagnoses of COPD lack validity; therefore, the validity of database diagnoses should be routinely ascertained before using administrative databases in clinical and health services research.
