Prior to treatment decisions concerning isolated Weber type B ankle fractures, assessment of the stability of the ankle joint is mandatory. The gravity stress (GS) radiograph is a radiographic tool to determine stability. We hypothesized that this additional GS radiograph would lead to fewer operative treatments by applying the criterion of operative treatment when medial clear space (MCS) > superior clear space (SCS) + 2 mm on the GS radiograph, compared with the nonstressed mortise view criteria of advising operative treatment in case of MCS > SCS + 1 mm. ⋯ Level III: retrospective comparative study.

Fulfillment of patients' expectations following foot and ankle surgery has been previously studied, and shown to be an effective modality in assessing patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Although this assessment has been shown to correlate well with patient satisfaction and other validated PROs, the impact of postoperative complications on fulfillment of expectations is unknown. The aim of this study is to therefore investigate the impact of postoperative complications on fulfillment of patients' expectations. ⋯ Level II, prospective comparative series.

A lack of access to care is predictably associated with negative outcomes in foot and ankle surgery. Despite recent advances in telecommunication technologies, the field of orthopedics has been slow to adopt these resources in offsetting barriers to care. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced departments to change their clinical approach, lending unprecedented opportunity to better understand how telehealth may bridge this care gap in foot and ankle practices. The purpose of this study was to assess patient-reported outcomes of telemedicine encounters, including comfort and patient satisfaction. Our hypothesis was that patients would be significantly less satisfied with telemedicine when compared with in-office appointments for all nonemergency visit types. ⋯ Level III, retrospective cohort study.

The deep deltoid ligament (DDL) is a key stabilizer to the medial ankle and ankle mortise and can be disrupted in ligamentous supination external rotation type IV (LSER4) ankle fractures. The purpose of this study was to define the medial clear space (MCS) measurement on injury mortise radiographs that corresponds with complete DDL injury. ⋯ Level III, retrospective comparative study.

The contralateral foot in Charcot arthropathy or neuroarthropathy (CN) is subject to increased plantar pressure. To date, the clinical consequences of this pressure elevation are yet to be determined. The aim of this study was to evaluate ulcer and amputation rates of the contralateral foot in CN. ⋯ Level IV, retrospective study.
