Pregnant women and their babies face significant risks from three vaccine-preventable diseases: COVID-19, influenza and pertussis. However, despite these vaccines' proven safety and effectiveness, uptake during pregnancy remains low. ⋯ Interventions had a small effect on increasing influenza vaccination. Training healthcare providers to promote vaccinations during pregnancy is crucial and could be enhanced by utilizing mobile health technologies.

The Ready-To-Go (R2G) Questionnaire is a tool for rapid assessment of health risks for travel consultation. This study aims to assess the utility of the R2G Questionnaire in identifying high-risk travellers and predicting health events and behaviour during travel in the TOURIST2 prospective cohort. ⋯ The R2G Questionnaire is a promising risk assessment tool that offers a timesaving and reliable means to identify high-risk travellers. Incorporated into travel medicine websites, it could serve as a pre-consultation triage to help travellers self-identify their risk level, direct them to the appropriate medical provider(s), and help practitioners in giving more tailored advice.

Diagnosing scrub typhus in travellers is challenging due to symptom similarities with other travel-related illnesses and limited early diagnostic tools. We present a distinctive case of scrub typhus in a child traveller, providing a comprehensive account of the case, the diagnostic challenges encountered, laboratory findings and the dynamics of antibodies.

Emergence of artemisinin-based combination treatment failure in patients returning from sub-Saharan Africa with P. falciparum malaria.
Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) are recommended as first-line treatment against uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum infection. Mutations in the PfKelch13 (PF3D7_1343700) gene led to resistance to artemisinin in Southeast Asia. Mutations in the Pfcoronin (PF3D7_1251200) gene confer reduced artemisinin susceptibility in vitro to an African Plasmodium strain, but their role in clinical resistance has not been established. ⋯ AL treatment failure emergence was not associated with mutations in Pfkelch13. However, P76S mutation in the Pfcoronin gene was more frequently present in the treatment-failure group and merits further investigation. The increase of malaria incidence in sub-Saharan-Africa partly attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic might also reflect a wider spread of ACT resistance.

A potential breakthrough in the fight against malaria is the availability of a new promising tool, the R21/Matrix-M™ malaria vaccine that has shown an efficacy of 75% to protect young children against clinical malaria in different epidemiological settings. WHO recommends its deployment in addition to RTS,S/ASO1 and other effective interventions.
