Prelabour Rupture of Membranes among Pregnant Women Visiting a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Prelabour rupture of membranes is a common obstetrics problem associated with maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The exact cause is not known although various factors are found to be related to this condition. Mean Warm Ischemia Time among Kidney Transplant Patients in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
In renal transplantation, warm ischemia time is the interval from the removal of a procured kidney from ice storage to initiating graft reperfusion. Successful kidney transplantation depends on warm ischemia time. The study aims to find the mean warm ischemia time among kidney transplant patients in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ kidney transplantation; prevalence; warm ischemia.

High Serum Ferritin Levels among Blood Transfused Thalassemic Patients Admitted to the Department of Paediatrics in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study.
Raised serum ferritin levels often indicate iron overload, but they are not specific as the levels are elevated in inflammatory disorders, liver diseases, alcohol excess, or malignancy. If regular transfusions are required for the patient with thalassemia, this doubles the rate of iron accumulation leading to earlier massive iron overload and iron-related damage. The aim of this study aimed to find out the prevalence of high serum ferritin levels among blood-transfused thalassemic patients admitted to the Department of Paediatrics in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ blood transfusion; ferritin; thalassemia.

Case ReportsGiant Cell Tumour of Tendon Sheath of Distal Phalanx of Thumb: A Case Report.
Giant cell tumour of tendon sheath is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumour. Histopathological examination plays a crucial role in the definitive diagnosis of giant cell tumour although pre-operative imaging supports its suspicion. We report a case of a giant cell tumour of the tendon sheath in a 26-year-old man as a painless, firm, localized, slow-growing benign soft tissue tumour of the thumb; managed by complete excision. The patient continues to do well at 7 months post-surgery with no complaints and no signs of recurrence. Giant cell tumour of the phalanges is a locally aggressive entity; therefore delayed or missed diagnosis of giant cell tumour especially of the thumb distal phalanx can be extremely debilitating. Hence, high degree of suspicion and early en bloc resection is the key to its management. ⋯ case reports; giant cell tumors; tendons; thumb.

Antibiotics Use among Geriatric Patients Admitted in the Department of Medicine in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Ageing predisposes to increased risk of infections which make these population vulnerable to high risk of various chronic co-morbidities, organ dysfunction and mortality. Increased frequency of infections has led to an increasing proportion of geriatric patient admission to hospitals, and antibiotics therapy has long been recognized as a cornerstone in the treatment of infections. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of antibiotic use among geriatric patients admitted to the Department of Medicine in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ aged; antibiotics; drug utilization.
