Postoperative Surgical Site Infection among Patients with Caesarean Delivery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Surgical site infections are the commonest nosocomial infections following surgeries. They not only increase the morbidity and mortality following surgeries but also have a great impact both psychologically and financially. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of postoperative surgical site infection among patients with caesarean delivery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ hypertension; prevalence; surgical site infection.

Mean Duration of Mechanical Ventilation among Newborns Admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Neonatal deaths account for the majority of deaths in the first year of life. Life-threatening apnoea or cardiovascular collapse needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Technological advancements, such as the administration of antepartum steroids, replacement of surfactants, nasal continuous positive airway pressure, and mechanical ventilation have led to improved neonatal survival, especially for premature neonates. The aim of this study was to find out the mean duration of mechanical ventilation among newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ mechanical ventilation; neonatal death; neonatal intensive care unit; neonate.

Case ReportsGiant Cell Tumour of Tendon Sheath of Distal Phalanx of Thumb: A Case Report.
Giant cell tumour of tendon sheath is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumour. Histopathological examination plays a crucial role in the definitive diagnosis of giant cell tumour although pre-operative imaging supports its suspicion. We report a case of a giant cell tumour of the tendon sheath in a 26-year-old man as a painless, firm, localized, slow-growing benign soft tissue tumour of the thumb; managed by complete excision. The patient continues to do well at 7 months post-surgery with no complaints and no signs of recurrence. Giant cell tumour of the phalanges is a locally aggressive entity; therefore delayed or missed diagnosis of giant cell tumour especially of the thumb distal phalanx can be extremely debilitating. Hence, high degree of suspicion and early en bloc resection is the key to its management. ⋯ case reports; giant cell tumors; tendons; thumb.

High Serum Ferritin Levels among Blood Transfused Thalassemic Patients Admitted to the Department of Paediatrics in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study.
Raised serum ferritin levels often indicate iron overload, but they are not specific as the levels are elevated in inflammatory disorders, liver diseases, alcohol excess, or malignancy. If regular transfusions are required for the patient with thalassemia, this doubles the rate of iron accumulation leading to earlier massive iron overload and iron-related damage. The aim of this study aimed to find out the prevalence of high serum ferritin levels among blood-transfused thalassemic patients admitted to the Department of Paediatrics in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ blood transfusion; ferritin; thalassemia.

Cholecystectomy among Patients Admitted to the Department of Surgery in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Cholecystectomy refers to the surgical removal of the gallbladder. It is indicated in acute cholecystitis, and other complications of gallstones like cholecystitis, pancreatitis and bile duct obstruction, the presence of gallbladder trauma, and gallbladder cancer. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of cholecystectomy among patients admitted to the Department of Surgery in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ cholecystectomy; cholelithiasis; Nepal; prevalence.
