Severe COVID-19 among Admitted COVID-19 Patients in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Severe COVID-19 patients experience elevated levels of serologic indicators of inflammation which can alter blood cell lineages and cause lymphopenia. The objective of this study was to find out the prevalence of severe COVID-19 among admitted COVID-19 patients in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ COVID-19; c-reactive protein; lymphocytes; severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus.

Metabolic Syndrome among Stable Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Patients Visiting Outpatient Department of a Tertiary care centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Metabolic syndrome; a constellation of obesity, hypertension, and disturbances of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism is a common phenomenon in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Systemic inflammation plays an important role in both conditions. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients visiting the outpatient Department of a tertiary care centre. ⋯ chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; c-reactive protein; metabolic syndrome.

Case ReportsNovel Technique for Placement of Immediate Implant in Mandibular Region: A Case Series.
Immediate implant placement is an approach to immediately insert a dental implant into newly created extraction socket following tooth extraction. Since osseointegration is one of the major factors for implant success, placing an immediate implant in between mesial and distal roots acts as natural surgical template and bone formation around the implant from extraction socket acts or gives better osseointegration. We reported 4 cases, in which nobel technique was used. It was used in mandibular first and second molars where we do immediate implants in case of a tooth beyond repair and in case of leftover roots. Here in the case of only root involvement, we have drilled and prepared osteotomy in between the mesial and distal root while in the case of the whole tooth, we have to section the crown first, then drill. Thus, better osseointegration with good amount of soft tissue formation above the implant was achieved. ⋯ case reports; extraction; nobel technique; osseointegration.

Mean Serum Lactate Levels in Patients with Sepsis Presenting to the Department of Emergency Medicine of a Tertiary Care Center: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Serum lactate is useful in predicting the prognosis of critically ill patients. Elevated blood lactate levels as well as delayed clearance have been linked to higher mortality in sepsis. Shock index is a simple and effective bedside assessment means of gauging the degree of shock and is an important predictor of identifying high-risk patients. Monitoring lactate levels may aid clinicians in understanding tissue perfusion and detecting unrecognized shock and making prompt therapy adjustments. This study aimed to find out the mean serum lactate levels in patients with sepsis presenting to the Department of Emergency Medicine of a tertiary care centre. ⋯ emergencies; lactate; sepsis.
