Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Transperitoneal versus extraperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: A prospective single surgeon randomized comparative study.
To compare operative, pathological, and functional results of transperitoneal and extraperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy carried out by a single surgeon. ⋯ Extraperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy seems to be a good alternative to transperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy with similar operative, pathological and functional results. As the surgical field remains away from the bowel, postoperative return to normal diet and early discharge can be favored.

Ketamine-related cystitis is characterized by ketamine-induced urinary frequency and bladder pain. It has become a serious problem in recent years. The most typical grossly pathological bladder change with ketamine related cystitis is a contracted bladder and bladder wall thickening. ⋯ Medical treatment might be helpful in patients with early ketamine-related cystitis and abstinence from ketamine. Several case studies showed that the intravesical installation of hyaluronic acid and intravesical injection of botulinum toxin type A were effective for symptom relief in selected patients. For patients with irreversible pathological change, such as contracted bladder, augmentation enterocystoplasty might be the only solution to increase bladder capacity and relieve intractable bladder pain.

Transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery versus conventional laparoscopy for the resection of retroperitoneal paragangliomas.
To compare transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery with conventional laparoscopy for the resection of retroperitoneal paragangliomas. ⋯ In properly selected patients, transumbilical laparoendoscopic single-site surgery is a feasible, safe and effective procedure for the surgical treatment of retroperitoneal paragangliomas.

To evaluate the prognostic significance of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in patients receiving chemotherapy with docetaxel for castration-resistant prostate cancer. ⋯ The present study results suggest that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is a useful prognostic factor in patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer treated by docetaxel chemotherapy. These findings might be useful in determining treatment strategies in the future.

To evaluate the role of prostate volume assessed at final pathology in the risk of biochemical recurrence in patients with clinically localized prostate cancer treated with radical prostatectomy. ⋯ Smaller prostates are associated with increased risk of biochemical recurrence after surgery only in men with intermediate-risk disease. In this category, the preoperative assessment of prostate volume might be helpful in order to identify patients at higher risk of biochemical recurrence after surgery. Additionally, prostate volume might be used to individualize follow-up schedules after radical prostatectomy.
