Case ReportsMitral valve repair for traumatic mitral regurgitation.
Mitral valve injury after blunt chest trauma is a rare clinical condition. We describe a case of mitral valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation due to blunt chest trauma 5 years previously. ⋯ The entire anterolateral part of the mitral valve including the anterior commissure and posterior leaflets had prolapsed. Reimplantation of the papillary muscle to the posterior left ventricular wall and ring annuloplasty were successfully performed without residual regurgitation.

Case ReportsBioprosthetic mitral valve dysfunction due to native valve preserving procedure.
Mitral valve replacement with preservation of the mitral leaflets and subvalvular apparatus is considered to maintain left ventricular geometry and function and reduce the risk of myocardial rupture. However, the routine use of this technique may lead to early complications such as left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and even mitral inflow obstruction, requiring reoperation. We describe a rare case of bioprosthetic mitral valve dysfunction caused by a native valve preserving procedure.

Case ReportsSuccessful repair of mesenteric ischemia in acute type A aortic dissection.
A 64-year-old man with acute type A aortic dissection had superior mesenteric artery occlusion and marked metabolic acidosis. By an emergency laparotomy, bypass grafting from the left external iliac artery to the superior mesenteric artery was performed with great saphenous vein. After deep sedation and antihypertensive management in the intensive care unit, the acidosis resolved, and central repair was carried out. At 10 months postoperatively, his course has been uneventful without mesenteric complications.

Review Case ReportsUnilateral anhidrosis: A rare complication of thoracic epidural analgesia.
Management of pain following thoracotomy is an important issue for the control of early morbidity. We herein present the case of a patient who was referred to our hospital after a fall from a height. ⋯ The patient developed unilateral anhidrosis postoperatively. We discuss this rare complication of thoracic epidural analgesia with a review of relevant literature.
