Case ReportsA case of right superior vena cava draining into the left atrial roof.
We report the multidisciplinary consideration in a case of right superior vena cava draining into the left atrial roof. A 12-year-old boy was diagnosed with a sinus venosus-type atrial septal defect associated with anomalous right upper pulmonary venous return. However, intraoperative inspection showed the right superior vena cava draining into the left atrial roof, associated with anomalous right upper pulmonary venous return. An anatomical radical operation was performed using a modified conventional technique.

Observational StudyAnemia in cardiac surgery: next target for mortality and morbidity improvement?
To assess the effects of preoperative anemia on outcomes of cardiac surgery and to explore the trend in mortality over an 8-year period. ⋯ Anemia impacts significantly on morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery, with less improvement over time compared to patients without anemia. Preoperative correction of anemia, when feasible, could potentially help to improve cardiac surgery outcomes.

Case ReportsDelayed presentation of aortoesophageal fistula after endovascular repair.
The incidence of aortoesophageal fistula after thoracic endovascular aortic repair has increased following an increase in thoracic endovascular aortic procedures. A 68-year-old man was diagnosed with aortoesophageal fistula 6 years after thoracic endovascular aortic repair of a descending aortic aneurysm. ⋯ Unfortunately, he died 1 week later due to sepsis. Aortoesophageal fistula may present long after thoracic endovascular aortic repair, and clinicians treating such cases should always be aware of this complication.

Chronic pulmonary regurgitation is common after repair of tetralogy of Fallot. Despite the deleterious effects of chronic pulmonary regurgitation on right ventricular function, many patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot remain asymptomatic. Health is defined not only by the absence of disease but also by physical, mental, and social wellbeing. We sought to examine the impact of pulmonary valve replacement on quality of life in asymptomatic patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot and chronic pulmonary regurgitation. ⋯ Pulmonary valve replacement can improve the quality of life in patients with chronic asymptomatic pulmonary regurgitation.
