Case ReportsVideo-assisted thoracic surgery for pulmonary sequestration.
Bronchopulmonary sequestration is a rare developmental abnormality. Most cases are asymptomatic and found incidentally. ⋯ Chest computed tomography identified cystic bronchiectasis in common areas of the left lower lobe, and parenchymal destruction with air-fluid levels. A left lower lobectomy was performed via a video-thoracoscopic approach.

Case ReportsUniportal thoracoscopic management of middle lobe torsion after upper lobectomy.
Lobar torsion is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication following pulmonary resection. Surgical management usually entails an exploratory thoracotomy and resection of the involved lobe if nonviable. We present the case of a 67-year-old woman diagnosed with right middle lobe torsion 5 days after thoracotomy and right upper lobectomy for squamous carcinoma of the lung. A thoracoscopic right middle lobectomy was successfully performed utilizing a single 4-cm port placed along the midaxillary line in the 5th intercostal space.

Polyglycolic acid mesh occlusion for postoperative bronchopleural fistula.
Postoperative bronchopleural fistula is one of the most life-threatening complications after anatomical pulmonary resection. Bronchopleural fistula may cause empyema and aspiration pneumonia with subsequent acute respiratory distress syndrome. Surgical interventions for bronchopleural fistula can prolong hospitalization and impair postoperative quality of life. Postoperative care requires minimally invasive endoscopic occlusion. ⋯ Bronchoscopic occlusion with polyglycolic acid mesh with or without fibrin glue is easy and feasible as the first step in postoperative management of bronchopleural fistula.

How pulmonary function changes after pectus excavatum correction surgery.
We aimed to determine the effects of minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum on pulmonary function and quality of life. ⋯ Minimally invasive pectus excavatum repair has a positive impact on the quality of life of pectus excavatum patients, but a negative impact on forced vital capacity. Follow-up studies are needed to assess the long-term changes in pulmonary function after this operation.

Occasionally, patients who complain of chest pain after the onset of coughing are diagnosed with rib fractures. We investigated the characteristics of cough-induced rib fractures. ⋯ Cough-induced rib fractures occur in every age group regardless of the presence or absence of underlying disease. Since rib fractures often occur in the lower and middle ribs, rib radiography is useful for diagnosis.
