Hypertrophic and contracture scars are common problems after burn injuries and cause functional and cosmetic deformities. A wide variety of treatments has been advocated for postburn pathologic scars regression. Unfortunately, the reported efficacy has been variable. ⋯ Extracorporeal shock wave therapy is a feasible and cost-effective treatment in the management of postburn pathologic scars.

A third-generation microwave-based device has been developed to treat axillary hyperhidrosis by selectively heating the interface between the skin and underlying fat where the sweat glands reside. ⋯ The device tested provided efficacious and durable treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis.

To assess the in vivo hemostatic effect of a folkloric medicinal plant extract. ⋯ The medicinal plant extract irrigation was more effective than saline irrigation for treating hemorrhagic skin defects in animals using a compressive dressing with or without heparin pretreatment.
