Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy for treating incompetent great saphenous veins--results of 5 years of analysis and morphologic evolvement study.
Varicose veins of the lower leg is a common disease and is associated with long-term morbidity. It has been treated using high ligation with stripping and endovenous laser surgery of the great saphenous vein (GSV). ⋯ UGFS is effective in sealing incompetent GSV segments. It is a minimally invasive procedure and can be redone several times in cases of recurrence. UGFS is simpler and less painful than stripping surgery and endovenous laser treatment.

Local anesthesia is widely used in general dermatology practices. The onus is on the practitioner to have a sound knowledge of the pharmacology and dosing of any drug used, including local anesthesia. The dermatologist should also be aware of the signs, symptoms, and management of toxicity of local anesthetic use. The level of knowledge of dermatologists on this topic has not been previously assessed. ⋯ Knowledge of local anesthetic dosing and toxicity is reasonable among dermatologists. Awareness of the guidelines for management of LAST, released by the American and Great Britain and Ireland associations of anesthetists, and in particular the use of lipid emulsion in this setting, could be improved.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Pain difference associated with injection of abobotulinumtoxinA reconstituted with preserved saline and preservative-free saline: a prospective, randomized, side-by-side, double-blind study.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved the reconstitution of botulinum toxin A with preservative-free saline. Reconstitution of onabotulinumtoxinA with preserved saline has been previously reported to decrease the pain of injections. We present the first split-face study investigating differences in subjective pain when using preserved and preservative-free saline as the reconstituent of choice for abobotulinumtoxinA. ⋯ Reconstitution of abobotulinumtoxinA with preserved saline results in significantly less pain on injection than with preservative-free saline. Preserved saline may be the reconstituent of choice for reconstitution of abobotulinumtoxinA.

Comparative Study
Evaluation of two commonly used temporary skin dressings for the treatment of acute partial-thickness wounds in rats.
There is a broad range of expensive temporary wound dressings that promise better results in wound management. The aim of this study was to compare two commonly used temporary dressings for the treatment of partial-thickness wounds in a rat model. ⋯ Using both skin dressings, we observed satisfying results without any significant differences. Because of rising health care expenses, cost should play an essential role in the clinical application of these dressings.

Hypertrophic and contracture scars are common problems after burn injuries and cause functional and cosmetic deformities. A wide variety of treatments has been advocated for postburn pathologic scars regression. Unfortunately, the reported efficacy has been variable. ⋯ Extracorporeal shock wave therapy is a feasible and cost-effective treatment in the management of postburn pathologic scars.
