Management of COVID-19 Pandemic in Spanish Inflammatory Bowel Disease Units: Results From a National Survey.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has rapidly evolved into a pandemic that has represented a challenge to health systems worldwide. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) units have been forced to change their practices to address the disease and to ensure the quality of care. ⋯ We report a representative national survey of changes made in the structure, diagnosis of COVID-19, and modifications in IBD treatments within IBD units.

Potential of Electrical Neuromodulation for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the digestive tract that is often debilitating. It affects patients' quality of life and imposes a financial burden. Despite advances in treatment with medications such as biologics, a large proportion of patients do not respond to medical therapy or develop adverse events. ⋯ A series of animal and clinical trials have been performed to evaluate efficacy with promising results. Although the exact underlying mechanisms of action for electrical neuromodulation remain to be explored, this modality is promising. Further randomized controlled trials and basic experiments are needed to investigate efficacy and clarify intrinsic mechanisms.

Review Case ReportsManagement of Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis in a Pregnant Woman With COVID-19 Infection: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.
First detected in Wuhan, China, the novel 2019 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is an enveloped RNA beta-coronavirus responsible for an unprecedented, worldwide pandemic caused by COVID-19. Optimal management of immunosuppression in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients with COVID-19 infection currently is based on expert opinion, given the novelty of the infection and the corresponding lack of high-level evidence in patients with immune-mediated conditions. ⋯ This article describes a patient with acute severe ulcerative colitis (UC) during her first trimester of pregnancy who also has COVID-19. The case presentation is followed by a review of the literature to date on COVID-19 in regard to inflammatory bowel disease and pregnancy, respectively.

The Impact of Spondyloarthritis and Joint Symptoms on Health-Related Quality of Life and Fatigue in IBD Patients. Results From a Population-Based Inception Cohort (20-Year Follow-up in the Ibsen Study).
Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often suffer from musculoskeletal manifestations. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and fatigue are known to be associated with IBD activity and musculoskeletal complaints. The aim of this study was to determine the association between spondyloarthritis, arthralgia, or back pain and the patient-reported outcomes of HRQoL and fatigue in IBD patients 20 years after their diagnosis. ⋯ Current joint symptoms in IBD patients 20 years after diagnosis were associated with poorer HRQoL, higher levels of fatigue, and chronic fatigue, whereas spondyloarthritis did not impact HRQoL or fatigue negatively in this cohort.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyComparative Efficacy of Vedolizumab and Adalimumab in Ulcerative Colitis Patients Previously Treated With Infliximab.
Adalimumab (ADA) and vedolizumab (VDZ) have shown efficacy in moderate to severe ulcerative colitis (UC) patients who failed infliximab (IFX). Although, a comparative efficacy evaluation of ADA and VDZ in this clinical setting is currently missing. ⋯ Vedolizumab might be the therapy of choice in those UC patients who showed secondary failure to IFX.
