Comparative StudyEndovascular treatment of ruptured and symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms.
To report the experience of endovascular repair (ER) in patients with ruptured and symptomatic abdominal aortic aneurysms (rAAA and sAAA), comparing results with a cohort of controls who underwent open repair (OR) of sAAA or rAAA. ⋯ In patients with rAAA and sAAA that are suitable for stenting, ER has reduced mortality compared with open repair. Assessment for ER does not cause a pre-operative delay, operating time is reduced, blood transfusion requirements are reduced and there is a faster recovery.

ReviewHypotensive resuscitation in patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.
The technique of hypotensive resuscitation in haemorrhagic shock involves resuscitation to below normotensive blood pressures achieving the minimum perfusion pressure that will adequately perfuse vital organs until definitive arrest of haemorrhage. ⋯ Animal studies demonstrate superiority of hypotensive resuscitation over aggressive resuscitation but further research is required to assess its efficacy in patients with ruptured AAA.

Near-infrared spectroscopy in the routine diagnostic work-up of patients with leg ischaemia.
To examine the reproducibility and clinical applicability of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in patients with leg ischaemia. ⋯ NIRS is a very reproducible tool to assess tissue oxygen saturation, but is not useful for the routine work-up of patients with leg ischaemia.
